Car Rental
For a complete island adventure, we highly recommend renting a car. Also note that supermarkets are not within walking distance. Cars are available from around €30 per day, but choose one with sufficient engine power for the mountain roads.
The most convenient option is to rent directly at the airport for the entire period.

Levada do Castelejo
A beautiful levada walk right behind the house. The route passes through an impressive gorge to a riverbed – still a relatively undiscovered path, ideal for nature lovers. You can start directly from our house, or drive a bit up the hill to shorten the climb.

Calhau Surf School Porto da Cruz
Perfect for both beginner and advanced surfers. They offer surf lessons, board rental, and wetsuits right at Praia da Alagoa.
Sugar Cane Factory “Engenho do Norte” (Porto da Cruz)
Visit the traditional rum distillery, where sugar cane is still processed as it was over 100 years ago. The factory operates during the harvest season (March–May); the shop is open year-round.
Go-Kart Track – Kartódromo do Faial.
For some extra adrenaline: a modern outdoor go-kart track just a few minutes’ drive away. A fantastic experience for both teenagers (from 14) and adults!

Een beschutte stenen strand met een ontspannen sfeer – zelfs in de zomer zelden te druk. Er is een klein kinderbadje en een snackbar ter plaatse. Perfect voor gezinnen en voor wie houdt van rustige, natuurlijke zwemplekken.

Praia & Piscina do Porto da Cruz
Down in the village, you’ll find two pebble beaches that are also popular with surfers. Right next to them is a seawater pool with ocean views, open from May to September – perfect for a refreshing swim with a spectacular view.
Praia de Machico
One of the few sandy beaches in Madeira! About a 15-minute drive away, you’ll find this beach with golden sand, calm waters, and cozy cafés. Perfect for a full beach day, although it is often a bit busier.

A Pipa
Traditional Portuguese restaurant in an old stone house in Porto da Cruz. It’s worth going early, as reservations are not possible and there may be a queue.
Baia do Bago
Small restaurant with a terrace by the water. It looks simple, but the dishes are more creative than typical Portuguese cuisine. Also good options for vegetarians.

The traditional farmers’ market in Santo da Serra is a true local highlight. Farmers from the surrounding area sell their homegrown vegetables and fruits, flowers, honey, and homemade specialties – often significantly cheaper than in the market hall of Funchal.
